Glad Tidings
Originally meant to be a holiday piece, this lovely angel was created in October during Breast Cancer Awareness month. I've known too many women who've suffered from this, so 'Think Pink' kind of took over.
She measures 8"x11", matted out to 16"x20", on bristol paper. Created with watercolor paint and pencil, white gouache and India ink.
A friend asked me if I could create an angel with lavender, in honor of a loved one who had cancer. Lavender is for all cancers, and that is in the angel's wings. The angel herself is wearing purple, which is the color for survivors or all types. The angel is smiling, encouraging everyone to keep fighting. I wanted her to be inspirational and hopeful, not sorrowful. I hope I achieved my goal.
Created on illustration board, double matted to 11"x14", made with watercolor paint, india ink and gouache. The original and prints have Swarovski crystals in the blue trim along the hem of her dress. It's sad that the scanner didn't really pick up all the subtle color variations. This is actually quite delicate looking. And the yellow isn't quite so bold.
